Amalfi itself is a charming little town with a fascinating history, stunning cathedral and great atmosphere. Situated along the famous ‘Amalfi Drive’ leading from Amalfi to Positano and Sorrento, this Amalfi vacation villa is ideal for those who are looking to escape yet not be too far off the beaten track.  The ‘Amalfi Drive’ is said to be the most spectacular road in Europe so you may choose to drive from village to village to take in the spectacular scenery, but due to the steep terrain, many of the villages are mostly pedestrianised and best seen on foot.  For those who prefer not to drive there is also the choice of an excellent hydrofoil and ferry service which link the villages along the peninsula with Capri, Naples and other towns.

Throughout this region the villages are full of narrow streets bustling with people, quaint shops and restaurants serving a variety of local produce, including of course wonderful seafood dishes. There are many trips which run from nearby Sorrento; a day trip to the islands of Capri or Ischia is a must, as is a visit to fascinating Pompei where excavations begun in the 18th century are still ongoing, or a visit to Vesuvius where you can climb up to the crater and admire the unforgettable views over the Bay of Naples.

This villa is right in the heart of the Amalfi region just off the famous road and very close to the small town of Amalfi itself. Each floor is accessed from a different level of garden so everyone will feel they have their own space and independence, but the first floor terrace is large enough for everyone to eat together and enjoy the pool – and of course the stunning views over the Bay of Salerno. All the Amalfi coast is a UNESCO World Heritage site and boasts an outstanding natural landscape, with exceptional cultural and geological value. From its foundation in the first century BC Amalfi was the favoured location of the wealthy Roman aristocracy, who had their luxury villas built here. Nowadays it remains an exclusive destination, attracting visitors from all over the world yet retaining the appearance of the typical old fishing village it once was. If you stroll along the steep, winding lanes of this enchanting town you will be amazed by the number of little shops selling brightly coloured, hand-painted ceramics and local gastronomic delicacies. Many of the restaurants serve fresh seafood, and one of the specialities you must try is fresh pasta with “cozze alla marinara” (marine-style mussel sauce).
